1846 - During the Mexican War, the Mexican army was defeated at the battle of Resaca de la Palma.
1865 - Near Abbeville, GA, former Texas governor Francis R. Lubbock was captured by Union forces.
1916 - U.S. President Woodrow Wilson ordered the militias of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona to mobilize and serve on the Mexican border.
1927 - In Texas, a tornado destroyed much of Garland and killed 17 people.
1967 - "Damito Jo Day" was celebrated in her hometown of Austin, TX.
1979 - In east Houston, the "Orange Show" opened to the public.It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
