Are there actually any people here AGAINST gay marriage?

I've heard rumors but have never seen it for myself. And I'm not talking about people with only 12 posts, but actual DU posters?

If you are against it, you get banned on DU. Even being anti-abortion doesn't give ya the boot.

Wow. Skinner actually admitted that he tolerates no deviation from the party line. They don't even know what good little Stalinists they are.

    Source: ABC News

President Obama today announced that he now supports same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.
^^From the link posted from DU.
    Longstanding opposition?
FEBRUARY 1996: "I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages," reads a typed, signed statement from then-Illinois state senate candidate Obama in response to a questionnaire by the Chicago LGBT newspaper "Outlines." White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer later publicly disavowed the statement, claiming in June 2011 that the questionnaire was "actually filled out by someone else."
Lying then or lying now? Link

His whole position on this has been politically motivated since that 'typed, signed statement'.

    178. Not true.

Romney would not be a powerless figurehead. He would be actively consulting with the "Prophet" of the Mormon church. I was a Mormon. I lived in Salt Lake City. I've seen various heads of states and sheiks pass through and meet with the President of the Mormon church. Romney and his wife have participated in the Mormon Temple ceremonies, where you essentially take a blood vow to be faithful to the Mormon church and not disclose the temple cermonies, which are a direct ripoff of the Masonic temple cermonies.
    Wow, that sounds like DU.

    87. Perhaps I misunderstand you.

However, I find myself ill after reading your post. The implication seems to be (and I may be wrong, and if I am I apologize) that civil rights should be subject to political calculations. The implication also seems to be that if the electoral math were NOT right, he should not come out in favor of the civil rights of us GLBT folks. I am plenty hard on this President (for other reasons, which I find unforgivable). However, speaking only for myself (which is worth about 3.2 cents), this may just make me overlook the many other things I have against this President (NDAA, cutting CSBG, drones, etc.) to elect him to overturn and change those other things. So...here is one person who said he would no way vote for him (after being very enthusiastic last time) because of the things I cite above, who might just very well now vote for him and, in fact work for him.
    One issue voter much?

    19. Yep...

This is very risky. I admire him for doing this!

I don't think he cares what the politics of it are, he wanted to do the right thing. Good for him! I'm proud of our President!!

    195. The people who are strongly against gay marriage....

were'nt going to vote for Obama anyway.

    This is pure WIN!
Yeah, black and latino voters won't mind!

What a bunch of delusional people.

Why can't it be both? Obama is indifferent to anything that doesn't affect his reelection. His personal convictions are the sum total of the slogans that he learned to regurgitate in order to impress the people who would advance his career. This is why I call him a dorm-room socialist. He picked up enough to satisfy his profs, but he has no depth of knowledge or understanding. Thus, gay marriage is something he favored when it curried favor for him with his fellow libs in Chicago, but was abandoned when he campaigned for president. Now that he needs the money and support of the activists, he reverses himself. Ultimately, I doubt that he cares beyond a vague sense of what constitutes the party line, and what will benefit him in the short run.

Anyone who counts on him for anything is deluding themselves.

I think Obama originally planned to announce his support for gay marriage after the election, if he gets re-elected, that is, but feels pressure now to shore up the liberal base.

I don't know about hispanic voters, but I don't really think this is going to cost him many black votes. It might bring out the youth vote, though.

It will probably also stir up the GOP base, which means higher turnout for Romney.

As for Obama planning to announce this after the election, Joe Biden saw to it that it happened quicker. Gotta love Joe.

It isn't going to get them to go for Romney, but it will get a lot of people to stay home.

No...he did this to distract from "the shellacking" part 2 that the Dems recieved less than 24 hours prior.

Anything to avoid having to talk about what people are really concerned about and reveal he's got nothing to offer them.

Had Lugar won in Indiana...Walker not garnered 97% of the vote and if N.C. had approved gay marriage...his opinion would still be "evolving".
