Prison Riot at the Adams County Correctional Facility
Natchez, Miss. (AP) - A prison guard has died and several other employees have been injured during what is being called an "an inmate disturbance" at a southwest Mississippi prison. Emily Ham, a spokeswoman for the Adams County Sheriff's Office, confirmed Sunday evening that the guard died while being transported to a hospital. She said Corrections Corp. of America, the prison's private operator, is working with law-enforcement authorities to bring the disturbance under control.
Press Release from CCA:
NATCHEZ, Mississippi Ė Facility staff, along with local and state law enforcement officials and officials from the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) are in the process of quelling an inmate disturbance at the Adams County Correctional Facility that began at approximately 2:40 pm. #1, screw whoever is calling this a "disturbance". It's a riot being carried out by things no better than a swarm of flies on a turd. #2, the officer killed was all of 23 years old. Had this happened in NJ rest assured the officer's salary would have been brought up. This is why we're paid the way we're paid. We work around these animals completely unarmed. Every day I leave for work and say goodbye to my wife can be the last. As for "quelling the disturbance" that's easy. Call in the Special Operations Group and mow these assholes down like the vermin they are. Riots need to be dealt with in one fell swoop. The Obama Administration: Deny. Deflect. Blame.

I noticed that "disturbance" language. I hate PC. Also noticed that 1 prisoner was injured in contrast to 5 hospitalized staff and numerous injuries of the guards and staff.
When I was in St Louis sold office equipment to the city jails (correction centers). I wouldn't go in most of the facilities, just handled business over the phone. In the new Justice Center I'd go to their office, but only because it was a high rise and I could stay on the first floor w/o going through the prisoner areas. I was terrified just going in the front door of that place, and it was in downtown St Louis. What scared me was the scum sitting outside on the steps, waiting to be picked up if they were released. The visitors sitting outside for a smoke also were really frightening.
Whatever you earn, it's not enough. When my boss told me to go to the federal offices in East St Louis, I told him to give the accounts to someone else. I refused to go over there. I valued my life over whatever commission I would make selling the office equipment to them. (You might remember E St Louis, Illinois from one of Chevy Chase's Vacation pics---the place where you'd roll through and the wheels would be stolen from your car while you're driving). It's a bad place.

For a while I had to go inside the Atlanta Federal Pen and calibrate some sign making equipment for them every few months.
I was never afraid there. But these guys were lifers and had jobs where they used tools and such. There were a thousand ways for them to get into trouble if they were so inclined.
The only time I was asked by my escort to stand out of the way was when the Cubans came marching past. My escort, a very large black convict named Moon, said no one liked the Cubans and no one talked to them.
One of the convicts was as curious about me as I was about him. He asked me one time if I "lived in a house and all that shit"... I told him I did.
"With trees and shit?"
"Yeah. Back yard."
He paused for a moment.
"Got a dog?"
He didn't say anything. Just nodded.
Man. What some people do to their lives.

Just awful. While guards aren't armed but MAYBE with spray, the inmates have self made weapons. That would account for the guard/inmate injury ratio.
NJ I bet your wife is a nervous wreck sometimes.Good men sleep peaceably in their beds at night because
rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
