1969 - Houston Intercontinental Airport officially began operations. The same day Hobby Airport ceased commercial flights but reopened a couple of years later.

1988 - Felix Morales passed away. He operated KLVL, the first Spanish-language station covering news for the Gulf Coast.

2008 - In Austin, TX, the governor's mansion was damaged by a fire. At the time, most of the historic paintings and furniture had been removed during a $10 million renovation project. Governor Rick Perry and his wife Anita had moved to a private home during the renovation. *

1990 - Off Galveston, TX, an explosion aboard the Mega Borg caused the release of 5.1 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.
Live every day as if it were your last, because one of these days, it will be.
