1798 - Angelina Eberly was born. She prevented the removal of documents from the capital by firing a cannon in 1842. The event became known as the Archive War.

1948 - Ralphael O'Hara Lanier became the first president of the Texas State University for Negroes (now Texas Southern University).
1982 - Convicted bank robber Lawrence Chalmus Pope was paroled from the federal prison in El Reno, Oklahoma. During and after his imprisonment he worked on reform activities relating to the conditions of confinement in Texas prisons.
1987 - Near Sierra Blanca, TX, 18 illegal immigrants were found dead inside a locked boxcar. Authorities called the incident a botched smuggling attempt.It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
