Ernest Borgnine, who created a variety of memorable characters in both movies and television and won the best-actor Oscar for his role as a lovesick butcher in "Marty" in 1955, died Sunday. He was 95.

Borgnine was unique and a standout among actors. I know he spent 10 years in the navy, got out as a Gunners Mate First Class in 1945. As of a couple years ago he still lived in the same house in California that he bought in 1965. I admire all that.

Rest Well, Ernie. You have earned it.

I don't see McHale's Navy reruns on TV anymore.

    RIP Quinton

We saw him on Fox the other day, laughing about being in Sponge Bob. He was a remarkable actor and man. They don't make them like him anymore----a man of talent, not a pretty boy, who made it in Hollywood based on his ability.

Unfortunately, he fell into the Hollywood marriage trap something like 5 times.

RIP Ernie - Your work in the "Dozen" was brilliant.

Several years ago, I was talking to an editor at Tekno Comics, who was trying to come up with a name for a series. They had the rights to Asimov's I-Robot, and wanted to call them I-Borgs, but Paramount was had copyrighted the word Borg, so they were stuck. The team consisted of five robots. I suggested that they add four more members and emphasize their zeal and intensity in the title. The editor asked me what I'd call them, and I replied, "The Earnest Borg-Nine."

    RIP.

Sad, but he lived a long, productive life. I had to put on my favorite movie and watch again.

The Wild Bunch, in which he co-starred with William Holden.
