Wow! It is a temporary ban on shorting financial stocks.

Maybe short-selling should be banned completely. What do you think?

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission took what it called "emergency action" on Friday and temporarily banned investors from short-selling 799 financial companies.

The temporary ban, aimed at helping restore falling stock prices that have shattered confidence in the financial markets, takes effect immediately.

Short sellers borrow stock with the aim of selling it, then buy it back at a lower price, hoping to pocket the difference. The commission said short sellers add liquidity to the markets during normal conditions, but recent unbridled short selling has contributed to the recent tailspin in the stock market.

    Ban It!
A stock I had was shorted hard and so far it hasn't made it back yet. It was a penny stock, but it had great upside until then.

I just see it as a temporary tool...much like the market circuit breakers.

Naked short-selling should be banned completely.

I agree. Some of those traders are NOT pretty to look at.

I think Naked short selling should be banned if it's not already, and monitored to ensure compliance. I think shorting stocks is as legit as going long. Crisis or no crisis.

After seeing what financials did today, how much of that was from limiting short sellers? I know there are many here with more ecomomic knowledge than I, so I ask the question, will this lead to a less accurate measured value of those stocks, or increased volatility?
