I would not suggest replacing windows, put a program like Acronis Disk director on your computer with a boot manager, make at least three partitions and instal more than one operating system so you can try them, you will always need a copy of windows installed for something.
Got question about Ubuntu. I am trying to install it on a laptop, and the laptop refuses to connect to the internet while running Ubuntu from the disc, which in turn prevents me from installing Ubuntu on the hard drive. Ubuntu program says they could not modify my wifi driver (Compaq Presario C300 with 250G & 2G).
Question is: Do you suppose an external wifi modem adapter would work under the circumstances? Guesses count.

It may. Ive never had this problem but I suppose you could also try an alternative wireless usb or card adapter. Or a usb Lan adapter (to plug your cable into) if you dont have one.
