    Notes: This calculator is based on research data pulled together by a team of researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
    Using UN data on population size in 177 countries, together with estimates of global weight from the WHO and mean height from national health examination surveys the team were able to calculate average BMI figures for each country.
    Using the values that you input into the calculator, it works out your BMI as well as where you are in relation to the rest of the population in your country and the world for your gender and age.
    As with all large data sets, there is a margin of error in this calculation, something statisticians call "standard deviation". This is indicated on the graph by the faint band either side of your indicated BMI measure.
    * Your range is a reference to the "standard deviation from the mean", in other words your result is likely to vary within these boundaries.

    Personally, I look at those kind of 'obesity' scales, based simply on weight and height (and in this case, what country you're from), as meaningless, and usually very inaccurate; especially as this one is 'sold' as a 'fat scale'; it just is not so.

    Far more things would need to be considered than simply those two (in this case three, though, the third one is sorta irrelevant), for one to be considered 'fat' or 'obese'.

    I mean, something like muscle mass is not even considered; which is a huge flaw; though, since that can not be determined through the internet, one can imagine why it is not even mentioned.

    They should promote it for what the scale actually is (imo), a scale that measures your height to wight index, that ranks your index against other individuals of the world; rather than calling it a 'fat', 'obese' scale.

    My rank was 35, at 5''10' - 240 pounds... but I used to be a power lifter, benching 225 over 25 times and maxing out at 315 pounds 5 times. This was while i weighed 215 pounds and was a little over 5''9' - when I was 18 years old (5 years ago), and that BMI was 32 (still obese by their standards).

    Simply, my point is (if you did not know) that you should not take these scales all that seriously, in regard to being 'obese'... 'cause this just is not the case.

    I loved Israel Kamakawiwo'ole both for his music and for walking around in a sarong without shame. He also made me look svelte. Yes, he's dead at a young age and I have already lived longer than my father's father (who died young for his kind) but I have a long way to go to maintain the family's gift of longevity.
