Vegas has some very nice places. They are getting away from the tackiness that was Vegas back in the day. Their target market is a higher class customer. You still have dumb shit like this but it's more classy now. That said, you want ghetto casinos go to Atlantic City.

Gambling income is down yet tourism is up in Las Vegas.

Less is being spent gambling and more is being spent doing other things. More people are bringing the family.

June 2012 gambling income is down 6% on the strip compared to last year. Downtown on Freemont Street (where this Denny's will be close to) was down 14%....but the rooms are still selling out quite often.

This Denny's will be in a vacant shopping plaza that used to have a movie theatre. It seems like a strange location to me. Freemont Street is the home to many "free" outdoor concerts and is a pretty popular spot. I enjoy it just as much as the strip.

People are still paying 500K for a 1800 SF condo with a strip view.....pretty tacky! The same condos were selling for 2M five years ago.

The Bellagio is a lovely place---the ceiling in the lobby is covered in Chihuly blown glass. It's worth a fortune and is lovely.

If you want tacky, think of the place across from the MGM Grand, can't remember the name, but has a Camelot theme. Unfortunately I attended a business conference headquartered there. The place looked like it catered to refuges. There were lots of people dragging big trunks down the hall, probably with all their wordly possessions. The air filter system was so horrible that you almost had to put on a gas mask to get from the room, down the hall, through the casino and out into clean air. I hated it. The group tracked down the guy responsible for booking that joint and about strung him up. It turned out he was friends with the owner.

Many companies book conferences there, as the hotel rooms are so plentiful and priced so reasonably. The groups I went with were very, very boring business types that the hotels probably didn't like, no drinking (or very little), no gambling, etc.

Linda #'s, the shopping is excellent with many high end items. I like going there, as usually can book a flight fairly easily, spend the night in a hotel, then get the heck out of there to drive to Utah or to parts of California, to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenes. So it's not all that bad, in fact serves useful purposes other than the "tacky" image that too many people hold. Of course their "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" reinforces the negative image.

In this economy, having a fake Venice destination would be way cheaper than the real Venice destination. Plus it looks really pretty. I guess I'm just not a purist on this subject.
