You're just a fountain of ignorant talking points, aren't you?
Democrats throughout the nation opposed civil rights legislation, including the Progressive left. Woodrow Wilson segregated the city of Washington DC and the US Civil Service. FDR refused to sign anti-lynching legislation. It was good liberal Democrats in Boston who rioted over integration in their schools in the 70s. Lyndon Johnson believed that the Great Society would create a permanent dependency on government among blacks, and spoke of it in virulently racist language. Here's the quote:
"I'll have those n*****s voting Democratic for the next 200 years."
And here he is using similar language regarding voting rights:
And here's another one from Johnson:
“These Negroes, they’re getting pretty uppity these days and that’s a problem for us since they’ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we’ve got to do something about this, we’ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. For if we don’t move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there’ll be no way of stopping them, we’ll lose the filibuster and there’ll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It’ll be Reconstruction all over again.”
–Lyndon B. Johnson
Not good enough? How about Harry Truman?
"I think one man is just as good as another so long as he's not a n*gger or a Chinaman. Uncle Will says that the Lord made a White man from dust, a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) from mud, then He threw up what was left and it came down a Chinaman. He does hate Chinese and Japs. So do I. It is race prejudice, I guess. But I am strongly of the opinion Negroes ought to be in Africa, Yellow men in Asia and White men in Europe and America."
- President Harry Truman
And, let's remember that this isn't ancient history. The current Democratic VP has a history of incendiary racist comments:
"You cannot go to a 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian Accent."
- Joe Biden
"I mean, you got the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice looking guy."
— Joe Biden
“There’s less than 1% of the population of Iowa that is African American. There is probably less than 4% or 5% that is, are minorities. What is it in Washington? So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you’re dealing with.”
— Joe Biden
That last one was Biden's explanation of poor school performance in DC. Now, remember a few years ago, there was a flap about South Carolina flying a Confederate flag? Guess who put it there? That's right, a Democrat, specifically Fritz Hollings, who was the governor at the time, but then went on to the US Senate, where he presented this gem:
"You'd find these potentates from down in Africa, you know, rather than eating each other, they'd just come up and get a good square meal in Geneva."
-- Fritz Hollings (D, S.C.)
No? How about the last sitting senator to have been a member of the KKK?
“I am a former kleagle of the Ku Klux Klan in Raleigh County and the adjoining counties of the state …. The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia …. It is necessary that the order be promoted immediately and in every state of the Union. Will you please inform me as to the possibilities of rebuilding the Klan in the Realm of W. Va …. I hope that you will find it convenient to answer my letter in regards to future possibilities.” — Former Klansman and current US Senator Robert Byrd, a man who is referred to by many Democrats as the “conscience of the Senate”, in a letter written in 1946, after he claimed to have quit the KKK.
"Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."
-- Robert "KKK" Byrd
Pretty vicious, right? But no northern Democrat would ever tolerate that attitude, would they? Not, say, a good liberal from Connecticut, like Chris Dodd?
“I do not think it is an exaggeration at all to say to my friend from West Virginia [Sen. Robert C. Byrd, a former Ku Klux Klan recruiter] that he would have been a great senator at any moment. . . . He would have been right during the great conflict of civil war in this nation.”
–Sen. Christopher Dodd
Yeah, he'd have certainly been on the right side of the slavery question, wouldn't he?
BTW, at the height of the Civil Rights movement, it was Democrats who filibustered Civil Rights legislation. Why? Let's ask a legend of the Democratic Party:
“I have never seen very many white people who felt they were being imposed upon or being subjected to any second-class citizenship if they were directed to a waiting room or to any other public facility to wait or to eat with other white people. Only the Negroes, of all the races which are in this land, publicly proclaim they are being mistreated, imposed upon, and declared second-class citizens because they must go to public facilities with members of their own race.”
–Sen. Richard B. Russell Jr. (D-GA) (The Russell Senate Office Building is named after him.)
And that's just anti-black rhetoric. Throw in the antisemitism that is rampant among Democrats today, and you've got a party that makes the Civil War Democrats sound like Abraham Lincoln.
Oh, and let's also remember that it was Ike who enforced Brown Vs. Board of Education by sending the 101st Airborne Division to Arkansas. This was after he signed the first civil rights bill since 1875, in 1957.
Not enough? How about Richard Nixon? "I am convinced that while legal segregation is totally wrong, forced integration of housing or education is just as wrong."
"Nixon's Cabinet committee on school desegregation, under the leadership of Labor Secretary George P. Shultz, quietly set up local biracial committees to assure smooth compliance without violence or political grandstanding. By fall of 1970, two million southern black children enrolled in newly created unitary fully integrated school districts. "In this sense, Nixon was the greatest school desegregator in American history," historian Dean Kotlowski concluded.

The parties didn't realign on Civil Rights, the Democrats simply moved the goalposts. As the Democratic Party moved left, it embraced socialist concepts of economic rights to other people's property, and redefined civil rights in terms of redistribution of wealth. They're still bigots, but their bigotry is expressed in paternalistic welfare statism that infantilizes the people that they claim to care for, even as they render them incapable of acting on their own behalf.
