1819 - Eli Harris published the first edition of the Texas Republican. It is believed to be the earliest newspaper published in Texas. The paper only appeared a few times before publication ceased.

1927 - The Harlingen Convention took place. It was a political meeting against racial discrimination which led to the organization of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).

2002 - In Texas, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin surrendered to San Antonio police. A warrant had been issued for his arrest stemming from a domestic violence complaint on June 15, 2002.
