1813 - The Guetierrez-Magee Expedition was defeated by Spanish troups in the Battle of Medina 20 miles south of San Antonio. The expedition was seeking Texas independence from Spain. The republican force lost 1,300 men and the Spanish force lost 55.

1824 - The Mexican Congress passed a national colonization law that became the basis of all cononization contracts affecting Texas, with the exception of that of Stephen F. Austin.

1894 - Dress designer Travis Banton was born in Waco, TX.

1983 - Twenty-one people were killed and over $1 billion in damage was caused when hurricane Alicia hit the Texas coast.

Everyone thought they would get bored and forget about it, they figured women would be back to scrubbing the kitchen floor and making babies in no time, who duh thought.
