1857 - John Benjamin Kendrick was born in Cherokee County, TX. He served as the 9th Governor of Wyoming from 1915 to 1917 and was a U.S. Senator from Wyoming from 1917 to 1933.
1875 - The Constitutional Convention met in Austin to declare a new constitution that altered the school system and the governorís powers of appointment.
1952 - Benito Martinez of Fort Hancock, Texas, died in action in Korea. He received a Medal of Honor for not leaving his post and refusing any attempts to reach him due to the danger of reaching him.
