Just read the entire thread. Lots of insight. No need to rehash the war between the states for me. I've noticed that conservatives from the north and south, with proper introductions seem to get along quite well. Neither expect to get much for free and don't waste much energy blaming somebody else for what they don't have. That is usually enough common ground...even if they do talk funny.

Leftist idiocy is not bound by state lines but it is unarguably more prevalent in the north, particularly the northeast.

And the coasts. The electoral map shows that. But we don't gain much by arguing with each other. I ragged on Michigan because Detroit is a pit, even if the rest of the state is not, and because Noonie's rant about southerners set me off, but I'm much more sympathetic to southerners after my stints at FT Knox and FT Hood. Most liberals haven't had that experience, so they are unlikely to know more than the stereotypes, but since liberals deal almost exclusively in stereotypes, there's not much else to do but puncture them.
