NPR can't be bothered with protecting unborn babies....they have plants to save!

After all, plants can sometimes exhibit humanlike behavior. And we're not just talking about the butterwort-flytrap hybrid in The Little Shop of Horrors. Some plants respond well to music. Some "smell" other plants. Still others seem to shrink away when touched.

Plants display remedial types of memory and possess "anoetic consciousness" — the ability of an organism to sense and to react to stimulation — writes Daniel Chamovitz in his 2012 book, What a Plant Knows: A Field Guide to the Senses.

Until I met some, I really had no idea what scam artists those in higher education as students could be. I always thought it was just the professors with their sabbaticals and other student/parent/donor/taxpayer supported vacations. My acquaintances have all milked the cow of expensive public and private universities with style. They have spent summers or a year in Vienna or Prague with side trips to Crete or Istanbul all on someone else's dime. They might have paid some cash for their undergraduate degree, but everything else has been a free ride. These are not scientists discovering the cure for the next superbug or examining the intricacies of the human immune system: They are opera singers, musicians, and my personal favorite "composers". How do you go to school to be a composer? Is it like going to school to be an artist? Does it qualify you to compose? Or does it qualify you to teach music?
