When my mom was a kid, going to Atlantic City was something people really looked forward to, even people who lived close to other Atlantic resorts. I have photos of her on the ferry and around AC. I went there in the late 70's and had a good time, though the hotel staff warned people to stay on the ocean side of New York Ave. Even so, I saw a bloodied storekeeper chasing a shoplifter down the boards who had stolen from him and then attacked him. There were also some seedy people who appeared to be occupying the boards.

We stayed at a small hotel near the Claridge. They had a drag show where Doris Day gets machine gunned while singing Que Sera Sera.
