I had heard Rush Limbaugh hawking an email service that doesn't scan your emails, but as I have no intention of an address of "reagan.com" I let it go in one ear and out the other. But then, a couple of days ago I got some rather disturbing targeted marketing from Gmail which demonstrated that their scanning technology is quite advanced. It picked up on my medical condition, and I can't find a single email in which I used the word "kidney".

Anyone know of a truly secure email service? Is there such a thing? Do I really need to care if gmail is scanning my emails (probably from under Ft Meade)?

Gmail isn't scanning your email per say, it's most likely going by your google searches for certain medical conditions, at least that's how their adservice works (when I looked up MMORPGS I get a ton of world of warcraft ads, or when I was shopping for engagement rings I got shane co. ads).

I actually don't seem to get spam like that, at least in my inbox, what browser do you use? If it's Chrome or IE you need to get rid of it, google is very bad about storing your data you look up, and IE is just bad. I personally use firefox with noScript

This wasn't spam in my inbox, it was an ad box in the email application. It's a one line statement which appears below your actual email like this:

Good hearing from you. Uncle Fred and I will be there soon.

    Love,

    Aunt Ethel

We do not give gmail the scans from FT Meade. That would be unethical.
