#1 Is the human race getting dumber......maybe......11-20-2012, 11:56 AM
Is the human species doomed to intellectual decline? Will our intelligence ebb away in centuries to come leaving our descendants incapable of using the technology their ancestors invented? In short: will Homo be left without his sapiens?
This is the controversial hypothesis of a leading geneticist who believes that the immense capacity of the human brain to learn new tricks is under attack from an array of genetic mutations that have accumulated since people started living in cities a few thousand years ago.
Life as a hunter-gatherer was probably more intellectually demanding than widely supposed, he says. “A hunter-gatherer who did not correctly conceive a solution to providing food or shelter probably died, along with his or her progeny, whereas a modern Wall Street executive that made a similar conceptual mistake would receive a substantial bonus and be a more attractive mate,” Professor Crabtree says.
Look at the product of the inner cities. Look at the product of idiot savants coming out of the educational system that produce keypad button pushers who can't spell without a spell checker, or engineers who can't calculate a logarithm without a TI calculator.
Four boxes keep us free: the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box.

I also tend to agree, and believe that one contributing factor, ironically, is the technological prowess our intelligence has given us.
By curing diseases, building safer cars, advancing emergency medical techniques, etc.; we have eliminated many of the natural selectors that would have weeded out the especially stupid from among us.
The self-destructively dim now survive to produce even stupider offspring, instead of selecting themselves out of the gene pool in some accidental, but easily foreseeable manner.
Just look at the average Democratic voter...

Stupid will always be with us, no matter what period you look at their is no shortage. The only difference I see is that stupid is organizing with one voice now which is a more dangerous form of stupid. stupid in large numbers is a lot of stupidly dangerous effect, when they join their idiot hands together. The difference between pigs and people is that when they tell you you're cured it isn't a good thing.

It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Well, 50% of the people who voted for President this time around put truth to the question whether or not people are getting dumber.Solve a man's problem with violence and help him for a day. Teach a man how to solve his problems with violence, help him for a lifetime - Belkar Bitterleaf
Liberalism is what the stupid think is smart.

Another note on stupid. Stupid used to latch on to smart for survival, if stupid and smart were walking down the street and stupid would walk into a building smart would gently turn them away from the building and back to the route, if stupid was caught in the rain with head tipped back and mouth open, smart would close their mouth tip their head forward and bring them in out of the rain to prevent them from drowning. Stupid would ask for advise on voting and other important decisions, smart would often call stupid in the morning and make sure they were up for work.
Smart would even wear t-shirts, saying I'm with stupid so stupid could easily identify them in case they were separated in a crowd.
This has all changed, stupid has broken with us, soon there will be groups of them found drown by the rain and starving next to walls. The difference between pigs and people is that when they tell you you're cured it isn't a good thing.

That's why I like watching that show about Alaska, so much. Those people know what to do and when to ask for help, and if someone asks you for help, you by God, give it to him.
I'm fixin' to have a mood.

Stupid used to just die.
Now it votes, breeds and gets elected to high political offices.

Inner cities teach people some very specific skills that don't translate into much outside of the environment of the inner city-I'm not talking about the schools so much as the entire world of inner city life.
I've seen elementary school kids who can't spell their own names, yet they can tell you the name of and the phone number for every cab company in the city.
I've seen teenagers who know nothing about the Constitution or the Bill of Rights, but understand their Miranda rights. Not that they know them as Miranda rights, but it's a matter of "I know my rights".
I've also observed teenagers who complain that reading poetry in school is too hard, but who know every word of their favorite rapper's latest "poem set to a beat".
I've seen adults who can't read 5 word sentences who understand what denomination of bill to use to buy a rock of crack.
