The White House has identified 19 executive actions for President Barack Obama to move unilaterally on gun control, Vice President Joe Biden told a group of House Democrats on Monday, the administration’s first definitive statements about its response to last month’s mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Later this week, Obama will formally announce his proposals to reduce gun violence, which are expected to include renewal of the assault weapons ban, universal background checks and prohibition of high-capacity magazine clips. But Biden, who has been leading Obama’s task force on the response, spent two hours briefing a small group of sympathetic House Democrats on the road ahead in the latest White House outreach to invested groups.

“How we are gathering data, for example, on guns that fall into the hands of criminals, and how we track that more effectively — there may be some steps that we can take administratively as opposed through legislation,” Obama said.

I don't know if there is that much support for a return of the assault weapons ban. I think there is support for a ban on high-capacity magazines in the public, but probably not enough in the House.

I don't like the idea of it being addressed via Executive Orders. These are matters for Congress.

I support strengthening some of the backround check rules-before you all jump on me for that (as it's really the only "anti-gun" thing I support), consider this:

Last weekend, at the Gibralter Trade Center (an indoor flea market) in Taylor, MI, had a gun and knife show, like they have all over the country. Taylor, MI borders on Dearborn, or as many of you call it, Dearbornistan. Let's say a bunch of young men, wearing those little muslim hats and speaking to each other in arabic, come to buy lots of firearms with high-capacity magazines. Are you comfortable with them taking delivery of these weapons, no questions asked? They have the same right to do so that anyone else has.

If the last decade showed anything, it's that a POTUS doesn't care about "support" for something in either the Congress or the US population at large to take away or severly limit a natural right.

I would do anything for love, but I won't do that.

Most of the dealers at Gibraltar or any other gun show are FFL licensed dealers, which means the buyer has to fill out a 4473 (with valid government issued ID) and either have a valid Michigan CPL or the FFL must do a NICS check.
If the seller isn't an FFL, then the Dearbornistanians could buy from Gibraltar as well as looking through the paper or Craigslist, just like anyone else.
