Why isn't student loan debt dischargeable through bankruptcy?

As I said, if you declare your student loans in bankruptcy, you should have to forfeit your degree. Seems fair considering if you claim your car loan you forfeit your car.

Another idea: If you can't find a job to apply your degree to within five years after college, you get your money back.

I'm sure that would go over well when all the affirmative action beneficiaries started reporting back for refunds, but then again how many of them paid for their education anyway.
