Winter is closing in on the valley here, the cattle herds have been moved down to the valley floor grazing grounds. You know what that means, shortly the valley will be snowed in and winter boredom starts. One of the community attempts to alleviate the boredom is a beauty pageant for little miss county....
I was thinking of entering the little bug..
I really don't want her involved in the egotistical hordes of mama's and daughters who think that looks is all important. Or that dressing up your child as a twenty five year old hooker is acceptable..
so need some opinions on this..I smile because I don't know what the heck is going on.

Is this the first year they have held this?
If not, find pictures of previous contests and see how the children are dressed.
Are her schoolmates participating? She may want to do what they do.
If you do let her enter, downplay the competitiveness and just say it's a fun thing for you to do together. If it emphasizes "country" I bet it will be a little more relaxed.
My daughter was never in pageants but 8 years of dance recitals and I came this close to killing a few other mothers.

well there is the factor of wanting to kill the other mom's that i have to consider..
i like the idea of checking out previous pageants, I'll do that now.
I just have this whole huge mental block on winning awards on how you look but yet, if she would find it fun I gotta do the mom thing and let her participate...I smile because I don't know what the heck is going on.

After Jonbenet, I can't look at these pageants as anything but creepy. That's just me though.Loyalty Binds Me- Motto of Richard III

Hey Lurkie. I have no doubt that she is a beaut and would do well.
I have no kids so I obviously have no experience in this issue, but some of the pageants kind of creep me out with the way they dress the kids to look older than they are (and the pageant you're talking about may not do that) and put lots of makeup on them. Also, sometimes parents get so into it that they put undue pressure on the kids (No, I don't think you would do that.) the same way they do in some sporting events for children.
I'd say it depends on how the pageant is run. It could be a good experience for her. How does she feel about it?Hey careful man! There's a beverage here!
