If you're just concerned with 'getting there', or want a low-key experience, you can book passage on container ships and the like.
They typically have 6-8 passenger cabins, you eat with the officers, and are left your own entertainments.
Looks like Carnival uped the comp to 500 bucs cash in addition to the refund, free cruise
and paying all the current cruise charges except art and the casino.
When they finally get to port they will be met by free trasnportation home
and every sleaze ball lawyer in the country.
I do like cruises, but I have no interest in these "floating cities" with 5,000 or so on board.
Never fear the U.S. Coast Guard will come to the rescue. At tremendous cost, too!
The problem I see is that Carnival Cruise ships are flying a foreign flag. Bahama. Almost all cruise ships fly a Bahamian flag for tax reasons. And I say, BULLSHIT! If they want to call the Bahamian Coast Guard when the doo-doo hits the fan, then by all means pay your taxes to Bahama. But if they want to load up U.S. citizens in U.S. ports, and then call the U.S. Coast Guard when things go awry on the high seas, then they should all be required to fly the U.S. flag. ESPECIALLY in the case of Carnival, who is based in Florida.
It's partially for tax reasons, and also so they won't be covered by US labor laws.
I was wondering why the Coast Guard wasn't assisting. Now I know why.
From what I understand, they just keep the booze flowing to the passengers when this type of thing happens, and keep them all drunk until they get back to land. I don't know how good of a plan that is when the bathrooms aren't working....
