URGENT -- Authorities say a shooting spree through Orange County, Calif., on Tuesday has left four people dead, including the shooter, and several others injured.

The shootings began at 4:45 a.m. when deputies responding to a call found a female shot multiple times in a house in Ladera Ranch, said Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino.

The suspect, described as a man in his 20s, fled the scene in an SUV, according to the LA Times.

Three more people were fatally shot in the next 25 minutes after carjackings in Tustin and Santa Ana.

"There are multiple (crime) scenes throughout Tustin and the surrounding areas," said Tustin Police Lt. Paul Garaven.

Police say there were a total of six shooting scenes across the county.

Amormino could not immediately confirm that the subsequent shootings were related to carjackings.

The suspect shot himself at an intersection in Tustin, the sheriff's spokesman said.

The motive for the shootings is still unclear and it's also unclear if the victims knew each other or the shooter.

Here's the LA Times link to the story.

The areas of Mission Viejo and Tustin are nice areas of Orange County. Most of the action/carjackings were in Tustin.

I will have to turn on KFI and figure out what happened.

    Motive unknown

    More updates:

....In Ladera Ranch, a woman was shot several times and died before 4:45 a.m., said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Property records show the home is owned by Irfan and Sarwat Syed, who bought it in 2008.

The gunman is believed to have then headed north in an SUV, where three carjackings were reported in Santa Ana and Tustin. The gunman was reported to have fired several times, killing two people.

Officers caught up with the man believed to be the gunman and stopped his vehicle near Wanda Road and Katella Avenue. The man, described only as in his 20s, apparently killed himself after officers stopped his vehicle, said Lt. Paul Garaven of the Tustin Police Department.

The relationship between the woman shot in Ladera Ranch and gunman was not clear, Amormino said. At least one other person was inside the home on Red Leaf Lane, a street lined with live-work units.

Deputies were called to the home, but the man suspected of being the gunman fled in an SUV, Amormino said.

A neighbor said he heard what sounded like gunshots before 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, followed by a lot of noise at about 4 a.m.

“I was in the garage and the door was cracked,” said Jason Glass. “When I opened my garage door this morning, my whole house was covered in tape. What a way to wake up.”

Tustin police then received reports of a carjacking at Red Hill Avenue and Nisson Road, where a bystander was shot, Garaven said. That person was wounded.

A second carjacking was then reported along Village Way and the 55 freeway, where the same man is believed to have shot and killed a driver before taking the vehicle.

Another driver in that area also drove in reverse on the southbound lanes of the 55 at about 5:20 a.m., trying to avoid a gunman, a witness said.

Damita Cunningham said the driver in front of her backed into her car and she chased after him trying to get the license number.

“We got off Edinger and he said, ‘You don’t know what happened,' ” Cunningham said.

The driver told her he backed into her car because a man was pointing a gun at him.

“He panicked and backed into my car so he could get away,” she said.

Police continued to search for the gunman in the area until they received reports of a man with a gun near Edinger and Newport avenues. Two people were shot there before the man took yet another vehicle, Garaven said. One of the victims was taken to a hospital. The other victim died.

Officers were dispatched to multiple shooting scenes, but authorities found the man believed to be the gunman driving on the 55 freeway, Garaven said.

The vehicle was stopped by officers near Wanda and Katella.

“The suspect shot and killed himself,” Garaven said, before officers were able to contact him.

Residents stood outside the crime scene tape, where the body of the gunman was visible under a yellow tarp.

"I've never seen anything like this in this neighborhood," said Leo Kueny, a 44-year-old resident. "It's a very strange day."

    KFI info

Bill Carroll show. Jo Quan, reporter

Started in Ladera Ranch. Women in her 20s was shot multiple times.

Shooter ran off, carjacked 3 cars, including 1 BMW, whose owner he executed.
    Took off in an SUV
    then carjacked 3 vehicles
    Kept stealing the cars.

All happened within a short period.

    Carjackings 6-7 miles apart.

    SHooting around 4:45 am

Entire incident was over in an hour

Don't know much about the motive.

On his way to 3rd carjacking off the 55, he was actually shooting at cars on the freeway. Three drivers called 911 about being shot at on the freeway. Two cars were damaged, one person injured.

Cops followed this guy to Orange (Katella) and when they pulled him over, he killed himself. Cops never used the word "police chase." It was a local street in Orange.

Sheriff deputies are still trying to see how many people were shot at.

No shoot out situation as far as we know.

KFI Radio: 12:22 PT WITNESS STORY

Some of the carjackings happened within a block or two of each other.

No one knows why he didn't just stick with one car.

    Witness: Demita (sp?) Cunningham

Was on her way to work; thought she was in a minor car accident with a truck, but the guy who hit her was swerving away from bullets.

    Her story:

"I have offices in Lake Forest that I clean...I got up at 4 am and headed that way...."

She got on 5 N and then to the 55 South (at 5:20 am). She exits the freeway, and when she gets to ramp to get off the 55, she sees a car accident and no one is moving. She decides to get back on the freeway by going backwards. She puts her car in reverse when, suddenly, an F-150 truck runs into the hood of her car.

The truck driver doesn't stop but, instead, turns right over and goes on another entrance to the 55 freeway in the opposite direction. Demita, furious, chases after the truck driver, calls her boyfriend to get him to come. She then follows the F-150, whose driver is not really trying to speed.

Following the truck, Demita pulls off the 55 on Edinger Rd., and calls the cops. The cops tell her to stay in the car, but Demita is angry about her car, so she pulls up to the truck and yells at the driver. The truck driver looks like he has seen a ghost. Demita's boyfriend pulls up in his car and goes over to talk to the truck driver. The truck driver explains "They were shooting! They had the gun pointed at my truck. I had to leave!"

Demita and her boyfriend call 911 and the police tell them that they are now part of a murder investigation. They drive back to the original exit (where the accident happened) to talk to the police and it is dark. A man with the brown boots is lying on the ground, dead, with blood coming down. ("The police shined the light on him and you could see the red.") Demita then realized that if she had originally gotten off the freeway 10-20 seconds earlier, she could have been shot. She explained that she began to feel sorry for the man in the truck who hit her. The truck driver had actually watched the shooter execute the BMW owner and carjack his car.

Just another incident to fuel the anti-gun lobby. This wouldn't have happened if there weren't any guns.
