    The Problem with Being Privileged

I am privileged to a large degree. As a white, straight, male, able-bodied, college-educated, married, man with no criminal convictions who also is a military veteran, financially solvent and over the age of 65, much privilege accrues to me automatically. Because of that privilege, I can:

Walk down the sidewalk without being looked at suspiciously.
Drive through any area without being stopped for no reason.
Shop in whatever stores I wish without being considered a potential thief.
Avoid being shunned or attacked for my sexuality.
Never worry about a potential employer or client wondering if I'll get pregnant or marry.
Never be told to smile by some moron who thinks he's irresistibly attractive.
Be taken seriously if I want to refinance my mortgage.
Be given great attention if I go into a car dealership or hardware store.
Enter buildings after climbing stairs and pulling open heavy doors.
Park away from crowded areas in parking lots and walk.
Receive single-payer healthcare from my government.
Receive a payment each month from Social Security.
Get special treatment for home mortgages.
Get care in a Veteran's hospital or nursing home if I'm destitute.
Avoid being treated like a criminal at traffic stops.
Go anywhere, do anything, and not be noticed unless I wish to be noticed.
Do, be, and get many more things than described above.

That is my privilege. Most of it accrues to me simply because I was born who I am, where I was born, and to whom I was born. Frankly, I often forget that I have a big bunch of privilege following me around wherever I go. But, then I see someone else who is not me, doesn't match my description, and who did not automatically start with that big pile of privilege. I see people every day for whom parts of the list above simply does not apply. For some, almost nothing in that list applies. Then I remember my privilege and am humbled by it. I didn't earn it, for the most part. It simple accrues to me by accident of birth, mostly. I try to remember that, but often forget. That's the problem with being privileged. I often forget.
    What a whining, gasbag.
May the FORCE be with you!

He must be trying to rehabilitate his DUmmie cred after letting some sane things slip out last year.

If he's trying to sound "guilty" about being born a white male, and were given the choice to go back in time to the ovary and gonads, who might he have chosen to be his parents?

I love it when Moonbats feel " guilty " for being a straight white male.

I know they can't change their skin color, but they can start sucking d*ck to make themselves feel better at anytime.

Wow! What a twit! I must remember to Lord it over the folks next time I drop into the hardware store wearing my newest irmine-trimmed robe..

I guess we are privileged that a large portion of our race doesn't break the law, sells drugs from their cars, or shoplifts. It's like terrorism. If Muslims don't like their religion to be synonymous with terrorism then perhaps that "majority of good" Muslims should push it's leaders to stop terrorism.

Avoid being shunned or attacked for my sexuality.
Considering you're probably straight then it's a good bet that you don't wear your sexuality on your sleeve and how your sexuality isn't wrought with deviancy.

Never worry about a potential employer or client wondering if I'll get pregnant or marry.
So, an employer shouldn't worry about potential lost work due to maternity leave? As for the 2nd, white men don't marry? I must be doing it wrong as I've done it twice.

Never be told to smile by some moron who thinks he's irresistibly attractive.
The frig does this even mean?

Be taken seriously if I want to refinance my mortgage.
Be given great attention if I go into a car dealership or hardware store.
So what you're saying is that only white males can go into a bank and refinance their mortgages? Name me one woman or black person who wasn't able to refinance a mortgage due to their gender or color? The bank doesn't give a crap as long as you can pay. As for the next sentence, I can't tell you of a car dealership where as soon as I got out of the car, salespeople are all over me like a school of sharks at feeding time. They'd better me if they want to eat. As for hardware stores, I'm a white male and I often have to seek out assistance when I go to any store, not just a hardware store. Except Bath & Body Works at Christmas time. Then the workers are like car salesmen.

Enter buildings after climbing stairs and pulling open heavy doors.
Park away from crowded areas in parking lots and walk.
Again, the frig are you talking about? You're saying it's wrong for a gentleman to open a door for a lady? And what does where one parks have to do with privilege?

Receive single-payer healthcare from my government.
Receive a payment each month from Social Security.
You want the government handling your healthcare? As for SS, I'm a white male and am not holding out hope that by the time I reach retirement age(which will probably be 85 by then) that all that money I paid into that system will be there. You can thank your Democratic politicians you love so much for that. If they didn't touch that money, no one would have a problem.

Get special treatment for home mortgages
Please cite examples or if not you're just a troll.

Get care in a Veteran's hospital or nursing home if I'm destitute.
Why would you need to do that? If you're destitute, just go into a regular emergency room. By law they have to treat you.

Avoid being treated like a criminal at traffic stops.
Go anywhere, do anything, and not be noticed unless I wish to be noticed.
Do, be, and get many more things than described above.
Then don't drive like a maniac and obey all traffic laws. If you're black and if you don't want to be noticed, then perhaps you shouldn't dress like a gang banger or other thug. Act like a responsible person and you'll be fine. Tell you what though Mr. Privileged, how about we put up Sec. 8 housing on the street you live. Would you be happy with that? Something tells me no.
