Just as Nixon went to China, should Obama go to Iran?

World powers, and the US in particular, need a game-changer to move Iran to a cooperative stance concerning its nuclear program, a few analysts argue. Such an Obama overture to Iran is a provocative idea, they say, but the alternative may be military confrontation.

We should 'drop' him off there, the same he's been making the CIA 'drop' off our drones to them.

Is there any enemy of the US that 0bama has not 'dropped off' our drones to, so they can 'have' our drone technology?

Nixon went to China in order to strengthen our hand against the USSR. The Sino-Soviet split had driven a wedge between the two powers, and Nixon was smart enough to exploit it. It made sense in terms of geopolitics. Iran, in this scenario, is the Soviet Union, not China. At best, Turkey could play that role (or the Saudis, but Obama's already bowed to them), but going to Iran accomplishes nothing and makes him appear weak.

I don't believe Obama is a strong enough POTUS to attempt what Nixon tried nor even Reagan. So in lies the problem with talks.

In your scenario Iran is the USSR. Reagan went to Moscow and talked to them, and he didn't look weak

I'm not certain that Obama could pull off what Reagan did, but active diplomacy with your enemies is never the wrong thing to do.
