You and I don't have much use for him, but in media circles, this should have been a huge story. This is the guy who wasn't afraid to go after Nixon, and he's been threatened by Obama?
That's a very good point, and a serious observation about the loyalties of the press. Think about who Woodward is to the media. He's the guy who turned journalism into a blood sport. He and Bernstein brought down a sitting president, something that no other reporter had ever done (although since then, many have tried and failed). He's a legend to the post-Watergate crowd, and for them to turn on him this way means that they have absolutely put partisanship above guild loyalty.
More like the Bolsheviks turning on each other now that they are safely in power. After the Russian Revolution, the Bolsheviks consolidated their power and purged the Mensheviks and other parties from the government. That left Lenin with a free hand, which he used to purge the Bolshevik old guard that had done yeoman work on his behalf, but who still had revolutionary principles and were a danger to his rule. Woodward is one of the party faithful, and if he didn't print anything critical of the one, he'd be set for life, but because he made the mistake of thinking that free speech applied to him no matter who he wrote about, he will now be shunned by the neo-nomenklatura.
