Damn, I usually know about these things before anyone else. This one wasn't even on my radar.

Yeah...so far the F35 is the most expensive aerospace program in US history, it may well never be used to do anything an attack helicopter or A10 mission couldn't do better, and it's still years from squadron service. I have to wonder whether Gen6 should even be a manned aircraft, except of course for the all-important USAF goals of having fighter pilots win medals, wear their flight suits to the club, and run multibillion-dollar programs they don't understand when they're through flying.

eta - The lack of vertical surfaces is clearly a stealth 'Feature,' however it was also the aerodynamic failing of the Horten-designed Luftwaffe flying wing fighter to which the B2 owes so much. One of the prototype Horten jet fighters crashed due to inability to recover from a spin when it lost an engine and couldn't recover from the resulting spin. Fly-by-wire works great and totally outperforms humans when it works right, but even computers have to have some surfaces to work with. Seems like its instability in yaw would be challenging for even the most advanced control systems to handle.
