    PAWNEE COUNTY, Oklahoma -

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers and other emergency crews responded to a fatal crash involving a semi truck and a train west of Pawnee near Highway 64 on Wednesday, May 8, 2013.

The truck caught fire and the driver was killed. Troopers identified him as Richard Knight, Jr., 60, of Edmond.

Troopers say Knight drove onto the tracks about a half a mile back from where the train stopped in a 2013 Mack truck. Troopers say he was making a wide turn and appears to have not seen the train.

The crash happened at 12:51 p.m. at a crossing north of the intersection of Highway 64 and Highway 108.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe confirms the crash involves one of its trains.

Video from SkyNews 6 shows that the train hit the truck at the crossing and then pushed it several hundred yards before coming to a stop. The truck was pulling a type of flatbed trailer designed for hauling heavy equipment. The trailer was empty.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe said the maximum speed allowed in the area for trains is 49 mph. BNSF says the train was equipped with a camera so the company will review the footage for the investigation.

We had a crossing in Kentwood that was kind of hard to see the train-the tracks came around a curve right before crossing the street. If you were coming from the west, you could see the train. If you were coming from the east, you might not see it. The crossing didn't have a gate back then, either, just a light that didn't always warn in time.
