#1 0bama's IRS: First they came for the Tea Partiers, then they came for the Jews ...05-12-2013, 10:25 PM
IRS Inquisition Update
Along with targeting tea-party groups, the IRS may also have given extra-special attention to the tax-exempt status of some Jewish groups for political reasons.
From the Jewish Press:
The passionately pro-Israel organization Z STREET filed a lawsuit against the IRS, claiming it had been told by an IRS agent that because the organization was “connected to Israel,” its application for tax-exempt status would receive additional scrutiny. This admission was made in response to a query about the lengthy reveiw of Z STREET’s tax exempt status application.More bureaucratic snafus?
In addition, the IRS agent told a Z STREET representative that the applications of some of those Israel-related organizations have been assigned to “a special unit in the D.C. office to determine whether the organization’s activities contradict the Administration’s public policies.” . . .
And at least one purely religious Jewish organization, one not focused on Israel, was the recipient of bizarre and highly inappropriate questions about Israel. Those questions also came from the same non-profit division of the IRS at issue for inappropriately targeting politically conservative groups. The IRS required that Jewish organization to state “whether [it] supports the existence of the land of Israel,” and also demanded the organization “[d]escribe [its] religious belief system toward the land of Israel.”
This has Chicago's gutter politics written all over it. When will the investigations of CAIR and Acorn begin? Unless you are a pro-Muslim socialist, dear Leader has reason to be very, very suspicious of you... comrade.

What difference does it make?
IRS targeted groups that criticized the government, IG report says
At various points over the past two years, Internal Revenue Service officials targeted nonprofit groups that criticized the government and sought to educate Americans about the U.S. Constitution, according to documents in an audit conducted by the agency’s inspector general.
The documents, obtained by The Washington Post from a congressional aide with knowledge of the findings, show that on June 29, 2011, IRS staffers held a briefing with senior agency official Lois G. Lerner in which they described giving special attention to instances where “statements in the case file criticize how the country is being run.” Lerner, who oversees tax-exempt groups for the agency, raised objections and the agency revised its criteria a week later.
But six months later, the IRS applied a new political test to groups that applied for tax-exempt status >>> On Jan. 15, 2012 the agency decided to target “political action type organizations involved in limiting/expanding Government, educating on the Constitution and Bill of Rights, social economic reform movement.,” according to the appendix in the IG report, which was requested by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and has yet to be released.
The new revelations are likely to intensify criticism of the IRS >>>
Anybody remember the Clinton IRS 'hit list' machine?

Most people know one part of John Marshall's decision in Providence Bank vs. Billings, where he equated the power to tax with the power to destroy, but he ultimately upheld that power, stating that while it might be abused, it was not the function of the Constitution to prevent every abuse of power at every level. What Marshall did state, and which Citizens United affirmed, is this:
The great object of an incorporation is to bestow the character and properties of individuality on a collected and changing body of men.
Thus, a corporation which does not seek profits is no more subject to taxation than an individual who does not seek profits, and the IRS was violating "[t]he right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." Of course, the administration has demonstrated its contempt for other areas of the Constitution which it finds inconvenient, so we can expect this case to go to the courts.--Odysseus

I remember when Nixon targeted his "enemies" the same way. You've got to blow the whistle on it no matter WHO does it."Today, [the American voter] chooses his rulers as he buys bootleg whiskey, never knowing precisely what he is getting, only certain that it is not what it pretends to be." - H.L. Mencken
