    A little bit of warning for you I forgot to mention. If they turn on bridge mode. You won't be able to use the wifi, and will have to get another wireless router. Which is a good thing because theirs sucks.

    If it was me, I would purchase a seperate gateway. Netgear are the best. But that is entirely up to you .

    We have the phone so don't we need to keep this modem? I would just get my own WIFI router if it was just the internet

    You can get just get the modem with the phone integrated and get a separate router. But putting what you have in bridge mode will basically do the same thing. You need to have the modem to get the internet. I have the Airis 722 (It is just phone and internet) and a netgear range max modem; as an example.
