How did he ever make it through Basic?
Octafish manages to turn this into a BFEE thread as well... damn, he's on his game today.
Did you all know the Civil War was by the BFEE??? It's true!!!! Octa knows!!!!!!
He got something in there spinning about some michigan militia, and Reagan-Bush, and my brain shut down. It does that when it suffers a stupid-overload, in order to protect itself.
While Octafish is well liked on DU, he is also called on his nutty stories by many.
Hitler was short as was Kim Jong Il, and Pol Pot, and Chavez, and Noriega, Napoleon...
We had a guy in my basic training troop who weighed about 110 lbs and who was almost as tall as I am. He was scheduled for airborne school after graduation, but there was serious concern that he wouldn't make the minimum weight, so whenever we ate in the field, the drills would call him back for seconds. It almost didn't work, as he just had a really fast metabolism, but he did make weight and he did go airborne. He wasn't the strongest guy in the troop, but nobody doubted that he'd make it because he'd never quit. My squad leader was a little runt of a guy, but tougher than a tanker's bar (and almost as bright as one). Getting through basic wasn't about size or strength, it was about having the right attitude, and from everything that I've read, Manning was the wrong answer from the get go.
