Paging Sesame: Bert and Ernie share cuddly ‘Moment of Joy’ on The New Yorker’s DOMA cover
“No, not even Muppets can be spared a part in this culture war,” writes David Harsanyi at Human Events. In celebration of the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage decisions, The New Yorker debuted this cover, titled “Moment of Joy:

Sesame Workshop doesn’t like it either. According to a 2011 statement, Bert and Ernie are most definitely not gay. Also, they’re Muppets.
“Bert and Ernie are best friends,” the statement read. “They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets™ do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation.”

Gay activists have been pushing for years the notion that Bert and Ernie are gay.
And then there is this little gem:
Lucky Charms won’t just be at the end of the rainbow anymore. It’ll be right up in front, toeing the line for gay activists and their agenda.
According to The Huffington Post, General Mills just announced that Lucky Charms – with little rainbow marshmallows – will be the face for a new gay pride campaign, called #LuckyToBe.

Both Frank Oz and Jim Henson completely denied that Bert and Ernie were ever anything more than a play on the puppeteers personalities and relationship.

Ernie loves his rubber duckie, not Bert.
I find the "their puppets" argument weak, but that's mainly because I'm old enough to remember when the muppets would visit Johnny Carson, or the first season of SNL, when they would tell dirty jokes.

A handful of idiots, none of whom are identified as "activist" in any sense we normally use the term, amounts to a handful of idiots looking for attention. The Tawana Brawley moment would be if HRC ran head on into each of those situations, called a press conference, and marched on Salt Lake or went riot on synagogues because Dennis Prager and Michael Medved have both been particularly obnoxious this week.
