#1 Will David Morken's Bandwidth Disrupt The Smartphone Carrier Business?07-22-2013, 02:46 AM
Bandwidth.com is the little company that could. The company that David Morken started in a friend’s spare bedroom in Park City, Utah in 1999 is now a 340 employee, $150 million+ revenue, business-to-business Internet services company based in Research Triangle, North Carolina that, if all goes according to David and his team’s plan, is about to take on the goliaths of the telecom industry—both handset manufacturers and carriers—all at the same time.
Under the Republic Wireless brand name, David’s Bandwidth’s wireless handset and service division, recently introduced a category-busting smartphone service for $19 per month for unlimited data, talk and text. The service is close to five times less expensive than the average smartphone plan from traditional carriers.

So far the phone works very good, I have been using it mostly with WiFi but the sprint cellular connection works just fine also. I would have rather have had a different model phone but for 19.95 per month this one is just fine and it is water proof and shockproof and in my line of work that is worth something, it actually is a good phone it is just that I have big hands and was wanting to eventually have one of the new big screen phones.
Set -up was simple, it basically activated itself automatically and their WiFi connection program is excellent and self explanatory. They use a forum for most of their customer service and it also is a good idea and works well.
I ordered another phone for that woman so she can yak and text to her sisters endlessly thereby giving me some peace.
So far I give Republic 4 out of 5 stars.Pffffffffffffffffffffff! Buh Bye Big Ears

How is the Spring call quality for you? How much are you missing MMS capability?

Call quality has been excellent, the only drawback on texting is that you can't send pics, you have to send pics by email. They said we will soon have that ability

I'm glad the phone is working out.
I might have to order one and give it to my mom. I never talk on the phone, I do enough of that at work. I have her on my cell phone plan as I get a discount through work. I could eliminate a lot of minutes if I kicked her phone to the curb.

After a week with the phone I think they will work for that woman and I.
I use wifi mode at home and wherever possible which seems to work fine.
Occasionally you will get caught in a call with a poor wifi signal, the best thing to do then is disconnect and call back with wifi off using cell only, the cell coverage in my area has been fine and I have no complaints.
For whatever convenience we have given up with these phones I have no complaints because of the 19.95 per phone cost, I personally have found no inconvenience because I love gadgets,.
This is that woman's 1st smart phone so she has needed a little help but she does have an android tablet so she isn't completely green.Pffffffffffffffffffffff! Buh Bye Big Ears

After two months I have to say it is a good company with good service with a less than desirable but fully tolerable phone. I recommend it to some but maybe not yet to truckers or bussiness people that travel a lot because I have heard of problems .
The cheezy phone problem is solved in November when they start shipping the Motorola Moto X which has outstanding reviews and is rumored to be the reason why Google bought Motorola..
Here is a link for those who would like to sign up for notification of when the Moto X is available to ship. DO NOT SIGN UP UNTIL MOTO X IS AVAILABLE!
