The Monastery of the Holy Virgin Mary, also known as the Muharraq Monastery, was forced to cancel Sunday mass this week. It was the first time the monastery cancelled mass in 1600 years. The monastery lies on the path of the flight of the Holy Family in Egypt.

The Muslim Brotherhood torched the holy monastery last week.

Father Silvanus Lutfi, pastor of the Monastery of the Virgin Mary, announced, “We did not hold Sunday Mass for the first time of the life of the monastery 1600 years ago.”

Tour Egypt has more on this historic monastery and holy site.

    (snip)
The library at the Monastery of the Virgin Mary is divided into two main sections. The first section contains thousands of modern books and reference material dating from the 19th and 20th centuries covering religion, science and other subjects written in Coptic, Greek, Arabic, English and Amharic. The second section of the library contains hand-written priceless manuscripts in Coptic and Arabic dating back as early as the 1300s.

When muslim armies spread across North Africa (killing while spreading the religion of peace), they also destroyed the ancient library at Alexandria.

In 642 AD, Alexandria was captured by the Muslim army of Amr ibn al `Aas. Amr writes to Caliph Omar, the second Caliph of Rashidun Caliphate, for instructions, and Omar replies: "If those books are in agreement with the Quran, we have no need of them; and if these are opposed to the Quran, destroy them."

...and tradition is a powerful force.

    Hmm.

Christians allowed to practice in Iraq 2001. GWOT Iraq occupation, and they are crucified, run out and there are virtually none left. Most went to Syria......which leads to

Christians in Syria circa 2010. US government funded Al Qaeda rebels now threatening all religions except Holy Islam.

Christians allowed to practice in Egypt 2010. US government funded coup and now Christians on the run monestaries devasted.

Seeing a pattern? Get in bed with the devil and you reap what you sow.

But then our Federal government isn't run by real Christians either.

I would say that hussein is not the first African-American president, but the ONLY Black-Muslim president this nation will EVER have.

Egypt was one of the earliest Christian centers and the book of Matthew seems to have emerged from a Jewish-Christian enclave there. The monastery system also seems to have originated in Egypt.

2000 years of history being washed away by bad White House policy. It reminds me of when the Mesopotamian antiquities were stolen during the early days of the Iraq war.

The problem with Iraq wasn't that we got into bed with the devil, it's that we pulled out without leaving a stabilizing garrison force. Coitus interruptus, in other words.

So you're saying we should have left Saddam Hussein in power? And you're accusing us of being in bed with the devil when you wanted the devil in power? You Ronulans are real whackos.

Now Al Qaeda is in power in Iraq, along with numerous other far more hostile factions. Since the outcome of removing Saddam was this inhereant fact, I guess its safe to assume that you got what you wished for as well?

These guys running around controlling Iraq now are far more hostile than Saddam....who if you remember was our "buddy" at one time. But short term memory loss about such things seems commonplace among some people.

It wasn't the ouster of Hussein from Iraq, it was the installation of hussein to the Presidency of the US!

AQ have been running around that place since the summer of 2004. It was a recruiting free for all once it went all Anarchy. This isn't simply an O' problem, it was a crappy FP problem that he's indeed not helping, but goes back long before him.
