Hey, which side always advocate for more teachers. Which side always advocate to cut teachers with the insistence that we don't need them? Your side.
Show me one document that says "my side" wants to cut teachers. I'll wait. And while I'm waiting, allow me to retort. It's not that "my side" wants to cut teachers, we want accountability. Who else is to blame for students getting stupider? And now you want to give kids credit for wrong answers? Yeah, it's all my side's fault.

Well I guess technically if you were doing math in a base 11 system...
Of course in hex, 3*4 = C (or 0Chex, if you prefer) or 00001100 binary.

Anybody care to bet that this kind of logic won't work with the IRS?

I just do not know where to start. My first degree was in "Math" although there was, IMHO, not an ounce of 'math' included, just arithmetic.

Math starts at Diff E and Integral Calc. Anything up to that including Algebra I and II, plane and solid Geom, Trig are just variations on a theme - Arithmetic.

Ody has the best point and one that most teachers who were taught the tables don't know well enough to use. They are called manipulatives.

My oldest just could not wrap her mind around all the adding, subtracting, etc so she memorized everything from 2+2 up. It allowed her to handle her daily needs in keeping a budget etc. but was completely terrorizing to me. I was doing this stuff in my head before I started school (We did not have Pre-K and kindercare in 1948). When she had to teach it in 3rd grade and her school has a set of the above, she looked at it and the light dawned. She can now do 4 and 5 figure multiplication and division in a flash without pencil or paper.

regarding the OP, it's just downright wrong but... the teacher probably doesn't know any better way to teach. Too much PC in the lib'rul colitchs.

If any of your kids are having problems, buy'm an abacus.
It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.
Live every day as if it were your last, because one of these days, it will be.
