The defund gambit won't work because the GOP doesn't have the nads to stick together. Rock is right. The Dems, hate them all you want, but you have to respect their resolve. Even when one of them dares to speak out(Baucus), shortly after, that dissenter is right on board.

Ted Cruz Reveals that the Republican Establishment Despise Their Own Base
The Revolutionary War was a rebellion against Britain, but it first required a battle between Tories and Patriots. Ted Cruz is fighting for the honor of leading the conservative movement. The main goal is to give the American people a voice, defeat the Democrat Party, and take over Congress and the White House, so we can shrink our federal government back to constitutional limits.
The battleground of the moment is ObamaCare. But the first adversary that must be defeated is the Republican establishment. >>>
Ted Cruz knows something the establishment doesn't. The Tea Party is a genuine populist uprising. This government isn't an elite tyranny yet. People do have power when they pick up the phone or e-mail their senators and congressmen.
Commentators keep talking about Cruz not working with McConnell and Cornyn, as if he is a lone wolf. Cruz is not a lone wolf. He is a man of the people.
Cruz is appealing over McConnell's and Boehner's heads, listening and talking directly to the voters. Everyone said he could not get the House to attach defunding to the continuing resolution. So Cruz did not try to convince the speaker and his complacent, pusillanimous followers. He went on TV, he took out ads, he ran an internet petition, and he called for people to fight. They responded. They're hungry to fight. People are fighting for their health care, their jobs, for control over their own lives. A million and a half people signed Cruz's petition. Thousands of phone calls from angry constituents followed, and all the talk of how it couldn't be done disappeared overnight.
The same thing could happen in the Senate. It will be decided not by Cruz, not by the establishment pundits, and certainly not by the Senate leadership. It will be decided by the conservative Republican base plus Democrat voters frightened enough of ObamaCare to call their senators. >>>
Is it impossible to unite Republican senators to vote against cloture and then turn five Democrat senators to vote against funding ObamaCare? It all depends on how many voters pick up the phone. (Scroll down here to get a list of senators' phone numbers.) It is not out of the reach of ordinary people to overturn the ObamaCare disaster. Ted Cruz is giving us the opportunity.

Ted Cruz: An American Moses?
Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz, junior senator from Texas, embodied a powerful role with deep resonance in his marathon fight on the Senate floor against Obamacare. He has rightly said of the battle America is currently involved in with Barack Obama and his ghoulish army of liberal Democrats: "This is life and death." And well it is!
"Life and death" is exactly how many Americans view the "train wreck" called ObamaCare. Unlike the unwashed masses, the president, Congress and all their staffers, as well as a chosen few others will be immune. Meanwhile, the rest of America is jammed into an oversized freight car while the Conductor-in-Chief directs it and us over the edge of a cliff.
Although many remain clueless, the truth is that the dire Obamacare situation is of biblical proportions. Whether Americans realize it or not, if Obamacare is not stopped, the nation will embark on a 40-year slog through a healthcare wilderness that will result in very few of us, if any, making it out alive.
That's why Ted Cruz (R-TX) has become a political Moses for many. Cruz's small circle of allies includes Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Jim Inhofe (R-OK), all of whom can be likened to antiquity's Joshua, Aaron, and Hur, the men who supported Moses during the battle against the Amalekites.
Here in modernity, the goal of the small but brave Cruz minority is to either defund ObamaCare or shut down the government, thereby putting the brakes on that runaway train.
Cruz choosing to defy Barack Obama and stand toe-to-toe with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is reminiscent of what happened in Scripture at Rephidim when the Israelites responded to an Amalekite attack. It was there that Moses instructed Joshua to "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands."
As Joshua fought the enemy, Moses, Aaron, and Hur ascended to the top of the hill. Throughout the battle, Moses raised his arms with his staff in his hands, and as long as his arms were raised, the Israelites were victorious.
Like a modern-day Moses, Ted Cruz has taken to the Senate floor to stand firm against a ferocious enemy called ObamaCare.

Because it's now not politically expedient?
Or the better answer.
The mistake of confusing "Republican" with "Conservative".
There aren't many real "conservatives" in Congress.
But just ignore the facts because you all must be right. Nevermind that Newt and Romney beat each other up on who was to blame. Go to 27:50

Speaking of ignoring facts, I provided major differences between what Romney proposed (and what Democrats eventually accepted in Massachusetts) and Obamacare, and also showed that what the Heritage Foundation proposed had little resemblance to the Atrocious Care Act. Why don't you address those instead of repeating DU talking points?

Before you can do things for people, you must be the kind of man who can get things done. But to get things done, you must love the doing, not the people!

The bottom line is that the study concluded you would still have to purchase insurance. If you force someone to purchase health insurance then you are indeed pushing government control over the individual.
Yes we all know that bad ideas have historical roots. The fact is what Heritage proposed wasn't "conservative" either. And what Newt was pushing against Hillary care wasn't either.Gun Control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound - Unknown
