US adults are dumber than the average human

WASHINGTON — It’s long been known that America’s school kids haven’t measured well compared with international peers. Now, there’s a new twist: Adults don’t either.

In math, reading and problem-solving using technology – all skills considered critical for global competitiveness and economic strength – American adults scored below the international average on a global test, according to results released Tuesday.

Adults in Japan, Canada, Australia, Finland and multiple other countries scored significantly higher than the United States in all three areas on the test. Beyond basic reading and math, respondents were tested on activities such as calculating mileage reimbursement due to a salesman, sorting email and comparing food expiration dates on grocery store tags. >>>

In the real world the leftist/ socialist dominated Department of Education (which is always ready and willing to fight for their right to keep your child stupid) would no longer exist. Meanwhile Common Core should complete the process of creating a hopelessly dumb and degenerate liberal populace to infect the culture.

The difference between pigs and people is that when they tell you you're cured it isn't a good thing.

As with murder rates, I submit that a more informative methodology would be to compare Americans of Finnish ancestry to Finns, Americans of Japanese ancestry to the Japanese. And you know why.

I'm not sure what you are saying. I'm saying that if you compare non-negro Americans to Finns, Germans, or Japanese, we fare better than we do if you include the American negroes. In essence such comparisons between the US and Japan or Finland is like comparing a continent to a country. What would happen to the Japanese numbers if you included all Pacific Islanders?

I'm not surprised. I've actually seen some of the reports written by many of my coworkers.

My supervisor was born in Greece and English is not her first language learned. She learned English in high school (in Greece) and she speaks and writes it perfectly. She told me that I have excellent writing skills compared to my peers and most of hers. I think I'm average, or at least what average should be.

My math skills are terrible, though. They are what kept me off of honor roll and out of NHS in high school. I blame the whole old math/new math/old math again change ups by teachers in the 60s and 70s.

This is the problem. There is no old math/new math. Math is math. If there ever was a subject that dealt with absolutes is math. But the problem isn't finding the answer to 5x4. The problem is someone not knowing what 5x4 is and still getting passed through because the school doesn't want to hurt the student's self esteem.

The new math was more about how they were teaching it-damned hippie teachers, dropping acid and coming up with new ideas about how to educate kids. I was a kid and can't really be specific about it, but I do remember in 6th grade math, they did the work at your own pace thing, which works great for students who have no problems with math. Not so much for the rest of us.

I can add, subtract, multiply and do basic division (long division is calculator territory for me). I understand Geometry, and got a B in it. I can't do Algebra or anything more advanced than that. I am amazed at my 13 year old niece who is doing her 11th grade math in 8th grade.
