(CNN) -- Public schools in the northeastern Massachusetts town of Danvers were closed Wednesday because of a homicide investigation, a spokeswoman with the Essex County district attorney's office said.

Information about the investigation wasn't immediately available. The district attorney is expected to hold a news conference about the situation Wednesday morning, spokeswoman Carrie Kimball-Monahan said.

Danvers, about 20 miles north-northeast of Boston, has a high school, a middle school and five elementary schools.

Danvers-isn't that one of those little towns from Nathaniel Hawthorne's stories? Or else the Salem Witch Trials. One or the other, or both.

Well, it's been a long time since I lived in Massachusetts, but yeah, the Salem Witch Trials were held, oddly enough, in Salem Village, aka Danvers. And other locations NE of Boston.

    But more to the point:

On 23 October 2013 24-year old math teacher Colleen Ritzer was found murdered in the forest behind the Danvers High School. A suspect, a 14 year old student, was arraigned in youth court.[23]

I wonder if the kid was psychotic or had an unrequieted crush on the teacher?

I watch The 700 Club mostly for amusement, but Pat Robertson had a point about the rise in school shootings since the mid 90s or so, and the rise in the numbers of kids diagnosed with ADHD and the associated rise in using psychotropic medications to treat the alleged disorder. Ritalin and Adderall might work for some kids who truly have ADHD, but a lot of kids who are diagnosed with it are actually either just emotionally impaired (they need counseling, not meds) or high energy challenges for everyone but the gym teacher, and they need more physical activity.
