The GOP ensured Cuccinelli's defeat, and McAwfuls victory. Its really that simple.

Or it could be as simple as the fact that Cuccinelli is the bigger jackass. You'll notice that his running mate wasn't elected either. Same reason.

Their refusal to back a Tea Party candidate tells me that the GOP is in full meltdown. They're more interested in being liked than standing for principle. I'm hoping for 2 things here. #1, I want this country to go full on Democrat. I want it to go into the sewer with the Democrats at the wheel. I want the people who vote for these cretins to actually see the fruits of their labor. #2, I want to see the conservative wing of the GOP break off and start their own party. These will be the people to bring us out of this cesspool.

The population density there rivals some parts of Los Angeles.

Most of Virginia is very rural save the DC burbs, Norfolk region, Richmond and Roanoke. That's how Obama won this state. We are now a Blue state.

Only saving grace last night is that Cucc kept it closer than predicted losing by less than 3 points, and the GOP party bosses can't point and say "see, we need to run a 'moderate' next time".

Too bad he's probably going to get beat bad by the Clinton political machine. That douchebag McAuliffe was a big kahuna with Bill and Hillary's runs. McAullife is probably one of the worst candidates the Democratic party has ever put up here. Can't believe that most Virginians are going to vote for this douchebag.

See...I can vote for a good Republican.

In case you didn't know, this is a huge election. This is where the Tea Party makes it's stand. Doesn't look good.

Did I mention McAuliffe was a douchebag?

    Live election results:
I congratulate you on working on the campaign. I have a great deal of respect for that. I haven't ever worked to get someone elected above the city council.

    Yeah...you keep telling yourself that.

Fact of the matter is the DNC ran a third candidate as a plant to siphon votes from the GOP. That percentage goes to Cuccinelli if the Dems don't cheat. And again there was big money donors that stayed home because they'd rather give that state to a sleaze like McAuliffe and the Clintons than lose their hold on the GOP reigns. Third time now they've left a candidate on the national stage hung out to dry. The GOP is screwing over their base.

Not true. McAuliffe took the single women vote by a substantial majority. That huge media buy that claimed that Cuccinelli was going to drive them back into caves went unanswered, for the most part.

No, it went to a Democrat because the one thing that McAuliffe is good at is raising and spending money. His campaign was deeply dishonest (his last robocall actually claimed that Cuccinelli favored Obamacare, a blatant lie, especially when you know that Cuccinelli was the first state AG to file suit against it). McAuliffe won because the DNC set up a fake Libertarian to siphon votes from the Republican, flooded the zone with money and propaganda and the RNC failed to fight back.

Don't lump me in with the Union of Soviet Socialist Suburbs of DC. Our neighbors are libs. We had the only Romney yard sign on our block last year. There's a vast difference between military and civilian government workers, and the civilians are becoming even more liberal as the federal government becomes even more of an elitist engine of destruction.

You'll notice that the state was flooded with Democratic money. Cuccinelli may not pay obeisance to your lifestyle, but he's not a jackass. He's a solid, intelligent conservative with a record of genuine accomplishment. McAuliffe is a corrupt political hack who made his bones as the primary fundraiser for the Clintons. His private sector experience consisted of setting up a fake green company that covered for the sale of visas to foreign investors. He's as crooked as any Illinois governor, and it's going to be very ugly watching him spend the next few years corrupting everything that he touches.

Nova is absolutely convinced that Cuccinelli lost because he isn't in favor of gay marriage. He's a single issue voter, and that single issue was irrelevant in this campaign.

I think the lesson for Republicans is to not have conventions in purple states nominate your candidate. Stick with a primary. Preferably, an open primary.

Edit: If you want to win the election, that is. If you want to kamikaze and brag about how pure you are, keep nominating legitimate candidates. Odie is right; McAuliffe was about the worst candidate the Democrats could have nominated. And he still won.

Right so the Dems can cross party lines and influence the candidate.
