(CNN) -- Yes, it happens every year -- the snow and the
    cold.

    After all, it is winter,
    or least late, pre-winter.

But how's this for a change in
    the weather?

Wednesday's official high. Thursday night brings freezing rain, sleet and a low in the 20s, according to the
    National Weather Service.

    Yikes, talk about mood
    swings.

    A particularly brutal batch of
Arctic air has taken hold across the center of the country, bringing sub-zero
temps to the north and sleet as far south as central Texas.

The family in Arkansas (very rural Arkansas) are preparing for another weeks long power outage.

I haven't talked to the Okie side of the family, yet. I figure they are going to have an easier time with it.

It's starting here in SW Missouri. We're about 20 miles up from the Arkansas border. A little bit of freezing rain topped off with the start of sleet. Should be changing over to snow by tomorrow. Projections are from two to six inches depending on which weather forecast you listen to. Then very cold air will keep it in place next week.

Rock, dust off your snow shoes and ice crampons.

I just heard on the local weather report that some areas
are expecting an inch or more of ice. That's not good.

At 7 am, it was 9 degrees here. But it felt like -7, according to my weather channel app.

Still building, the branches and electric lines keep getting heavier and heavier.

You're getting it sooner than we are. Keep safe.

A few minutes ago, I was standing in the garage back door watching a very light fine snow come down. In a few minutes the fine flakes started getting bigger.

It started here as rain that immediately freezes when it touches stuff, still rain with a few crunchies mixed in now.
