More wet weather anticipated after snow blankets Big Island summits
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -More wet weather is expected overnight with a chance of heavier showers for Maui County and the Big Island of Hawaii.
A Flash Flood Watch is posted for those islands until noon Thursday.
Portions of the Big Island are also under a Flood Advisory until 7:30 p.m. Radar showed a nearly stationary area of heavy rain near Kamuela. Other areas in the advisory include but are not limited to Waipio Valley, Upolu Airport, Hawi, Mahukona and Honokaa.
The wet weather is being caused by an upper level disturbance that's parked just to the southwest of the Big Island. It will keep wet weather around until around midday Thursday for Maui County and the Big Island, with the heaviest rainfall expected in windward areas.
Oahu is on the fringes of the system but could see some scattered showers from it. Kauai will be left mostly dry.
The system earlier left a blanket of snow atop Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Light snow accumulations and flurries are forecast for the summits tonight, but no winter storm watches or warnings are posted at the current time.

People seldom realize that there is actually good seasonal skiing in Hawaii from time to time.
When I was there in November of '05 (I think), there were fantastic waves at the shoreline (like 40'-50' surf), which made for incredible surfing, but people were skiing on Maui, where there are 10,000-12,000-foot peaks. Really bizarre to someone from Tennessee. I had a rental car for shuttling around the group I was escorting, and one day I picked up a couple of guys in our group before dawn, drove them up Haleakalā for morning skiing, and then picked them up in the early afternoon so that they could play a round of golf at Kapalua ... in shorts. Must have looked pretty weird rolling up in a convertible with two pairs of skis and two golf bags poking out of the trunk.Olde-style, states' rights conservative. Ask if this concept confuses you.

A good friend of mine has a "shared" apartment in Waikiki. He goes down from Calgary every December and back home in march.
He sent me a pic this week of his wife wearing a hoodie, wrapped in a big, thick blanket and the heating pad turned on high. Didn't state the temp but the title of the email was "Brrrrr"It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.
It's been a long road and not all of it was paved.
