Yes, here, homophobia is meant to shut down debate. It is over-applied to anyone who dares stand up against The Ghey.... prove me wrong. Socialist is not a made up term AND it depends on where you stand on socialism as to how the debate takes place, now doesn't it?

Socialism is not a made up term. It's a term describing a certain economic philosophy and it's a term that's been around for decades if not longer. Calling someone a socialist while pointing out that said person's economic ideals are socialistic is not a term "used to shut down debate". Quite the contrary. Conservatives actually use the term socialism(or communism) to further the debate. For example, take Obamacare(seriously, please take it). Obamacare is a socialistic ideal. It is designed to take money earned by one group and it's distributed to those it deems are in need. That is socialism in a nutshell. To imply that someone is a socialist and you're able to back it up is not there to stifle debate but to broaden it. However, terms such as homophobia, racist, misogynist, war on women, etc are designed to stifle debate by branding someone as a closed minded backward thinking individual. For example, if I were to debate a progressive on abortion and declare that I'm pro life, I will be quickly labeled a misogynist and someone who is against a woman's right to choose. The issue that I believe the life of a child to be sacred won't ever come into the conversation or the merits of allowing a child a chance to live. That is the difference.

Oh, and I'm still waiting for those rights that I get that gays don't.

Calling names doesn't help a cause. You (Nova) know how some people say stuff like "Stuff like that give Christians a bad name?" Honestly, the same logic applies to liberal ideas. When liberals call conservatives names, it turns off those who might be middle of the road or undecided.

At his age I'm not sure why he cares, he can't be doing it for the next generation because he can't produce another generation, it all seems rather queer.

The Court holds that Oklahoma’s constitutional amendment limiting marriage to opposite-sex couples violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The 14th Amendment covered the recently freed slaves in the South....
ETA: Marriage is not covered under the US Constitution and as such, it is the individual state's duty to define marriage within their borders
