Nolan Ryan to return to Astros as special assistant to Jim Crane
Picked by the Mets in the 12th round of the 1965 draft out of Alvin High, he eventually reached the majors a year later at the tender age of 19 on Sept. 11, 1966
“I see my role in baseball different now than what it was with the Rangers,” he said late last month. “That gives you kind of a different feel about it and about the way it would involve my time and commitment. It would be more on a consultant type basis. It's not how old you are, it's how you got here.

Amazing how he never won a Cy Young but then again, with the exception of the strike outs and no hitters his numbers are fairly pedestrian. He only won 20 games in a season twice and his career ERA is 3.19 which is decent but not great but he was dominant and an innings eater. He's a good baseball guy too.
