Oh Mercy! Am going to kick myself for doing this, I know, but ...
This is the first phone I remember my parents having when I was a very young child, growing up out in the country just north of Toronto, Canada.
You had to turn the ringer once, just to get the operator, then give her the number to ring through for you. When *you* were receiving a call ... you had first to count the number of rings before picking up, as all were on a "party-line."
Funny, because everyone could listen in to your call, knowing full well it wasn't for them! Interesting times were had by all, let me tell you.
