#1 Re-Watching The Game Of Thrones03-01-2014, 09:09 PM
I'm re-watching The Game Of Thrones. I talked my baby sister into watching last week. She LOVES it. Of course she called me crying her eyes out by season 1 Episode 8. I've read up to book 6, A Dance with Dragons. Waiting "patiently" for book 7, The Winds of Winter. And Season four of the TV series starts in April, can't wait! Anyone else watch? Or read the books? Who's your favorite character? Which character do you hate the most? What surprised you the most?
I LOVE this series!Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

I like most of the characters, good and evil. Some characters are really made better on the show by the people who play them-Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister is a good example.
I like Stannis Baratheon, and his feeling that it is his duty to be King after the death of his brother, since the children of the Queen are not the biological children of the King. I like his Hand, Davos, and the friendship he has with Stannis' little girl (who taught Davos to read). I love the manipulators like Petyr Baelish and Lord Varis. I also love Jon Snow.
The author has done a good job with the female characters, too. Queen Cersei is a woman with the heart of a serial killer, Brianne of Tarth is a tough woman who helps Jamie Lannister find a conscience, Dany is the Mother of Dragons and the liberator of Slaver's Bay (but can't figure out how to rule once she's conquered a city), Melisandre is both creepy and cool, Osha is extremely protective of children she never knew until she was captured and forced to help care for them, Marjorie is willing to take on Cersei in a battle for influence over Joffrey, Diana Rigg plays the Queen of Thorns like she's Kate playing Eleonor of Aquitane in my favorite movie, and Sansa Stark is innocence personified (well, so far, at least, in both books and show). Arya Stark is really an awesome child character, and the actress who plays her is perfect for the part-tough, scared, mistreated by many and viewed as a valuable hostage by most-yet she melts the heart of The Hound when her family is slaughtered just as she's about to be reunited with them. Plus, by the time she's 10, she's already got a body count.
Then there is Tyrion Lannister, who is just great. Peter Dinklage is awesome in the part, although in the books the character is described as hideous in appearance and PD is handsome.
I can't wait for Season 4, because I want to see one character in particular meet his demise and I know it's coming.

How far have you gotten in the books? I started reading book 1 right before I bought the season 1 DVD Box Set. Got about halfway through the book & couldn't wait any longer so I watched the whole first season in about 2 days. I was inconsolable when Ned died. I SO didn't see it coming. Cried like a baby. Almost gave up completely on all of it, Books & TV Series. Once the shock of that wore off I realized I have to see Joffrey pay. So I finished all 5 books before I watched Season 2 or 3. I still cried my eyes out during The Red Wedding but at least I was expecting it.
So now my Sister's watching it. She hasn't read any of the books & was equally as devastated by Ned's execution. She called me on Skype immediately after & she could barely talk she was sobbing so bad. I warned her it would be emotional & traumatic, but I didn't tell her anything specific. Talked to her this morning & she's about halfway through season 2. I still haven't given her any details. Is it wrong that I can't wait to see her reaction to The Red Wedding?
For me, I just want to know when the next book will be released. I'm so impatient. I pretty much agree with your assessment of the characters you mentioned. I will add that Theon is a little weasel but still am horrified at what Ramsay Snow does to him. And I also do not understand Davos loyalty to Stannis after losing so much Then being abandoned by him, not to mention treated like a criminal when he finally catches up with him again. Oh & Stannis' wife is creepy & so was Cat's sister Lysa & her son Robin. I was happy to see Daenerys brother get his "crown of gold", & I really like the Bear & how protective he is of her.Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

I've read all five books and watched all three seasons. I know what happens next, and I can't wait for what the book fans call the Purple Wedding.
What I didn't realize until I read the books was that there were two characters who were created for the television show-Rob Stark's wife from Volantis and Ros, Petyr Baelish's whore/assistant.
Because the characters of Rob and Jon Snow are older on the series than in the books, I suspect that is why they didn't have him marry Jayne Westerling girl from the books-a silly teenage love is not enough to wreck an alliance with Walder Frey, but the woman in the series is a deeper character, and the relationship is more mature.
I can't wait for the 4th season of the series and the 6th book to come out, although who knows when the next book will be done.
