Duggan's been mayor of Detroit for 2 months. I concede that the previous mayors were all democrats, going back at least to the 1960s. But, he's only been mayor for a brief period, and he is making some changes already that could have a positive impact on future numbers. Also, during Dennis Archer's time as mayor (94-2002), crime dropped drastically.

Detroit is most dangerous for the people who live there, as opposed to the people who visit. It is safe downtown, pretty much. If you go to a game, concert, WSU, the medical center, the DIA, or a casino, it's pretty safe. All those places have good security, and the DPD patrols the areas around the venues.

Most of you guys would be safe, even in the bad areas, because Detroit is an open/carry city.

Translation: France has a warning list, for its citizens, containing 14 US cities. Richmond VA. is on that list. The French gov't has deemed Richmond too unsafe to even walk the streets...
Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem.

We could say they are spending like drunken sailors. That would be unfair to drunken sailors, they're spending their OWN money.

Good catch. Chicago is so bad that they're afraid to list it---fear of retribution from Dead Fish Emanuel and the Annointed One.

BTW, I love Noonie's "pretty safe" to walk Detroit streets. Is that sort of like a little bit pregnant?

She's probably right, sort of like St Louis. The tourists are usually safe or pretty safe, but beware if you happen to get into the wrong neighborhoods.

St Louis must be cleaning up its act. They're #5 now. They're slipping, used to rotate between 1 & 2. And there probably has been one Republican mayor in the last 100 years, give or take a few years.
