Crews have been chipping away at ice near the right field line with shovels.

"This has actually been the perfect storm for me," Bossard said. "I've been in this for 45 years and I've seen a lot of snow. Certainly, that's not hard to handle. ... My problem actually is the permafrost. I've actually never run into where I've got 30 inches of permafrost."

There's a certain charm to a football game played in the snow on a raggedy, chewed-up field — but baseball is supposed to be about sunshine and soft grass. Nobody ever waxes poetic about the frozen tundra of Fenway Park.

None of them are going to want spring training to end. Arizona and Florida are nice this time of year. Can't even imagine the permafrost.

Not to mention that we're expecting another storm tomorrow bringing more snow. Good thing the Phils open up in Arlington, TX. Of course this is going to cramp the final 2 pre-season games in Philly Friday and Saturday.

Despite the awful long winter, we had a really nice day on Monday for opening day. It was sunny and around 55-60 degrees outside. Yesterday was nice, too. The Tigers won both games so far.

Comerica Park had to lay that sod in a hurry, though. They really had a very short opportunity between the ground thawing and Opening Day. If the ground completely thawed without some type of mechanical intervention, that is.
