Shin-Soo Choo comes through again; Rangers score three in ninth, earn second straight walk-off victory
ARLINGTON – A year ago, the Texas Rangers had a total of seven walkoff wins and didn’t get their second until the end of July.
They reached No. 2 for 2014 in the third game.
OF Shin-Soo Choo capped a three-run ninth-inning rally with a bases loaded walk off Jonathan Papelbon to give the Rangers a 4-3 win. Choo worked his way back from 1-and-2 in the count to take a full-count walk. After a rough season-opener, Choo has now reached base six times in his last 10 plate appearances.
3B Adrian Beltre, who drove Choo home in the 3-2 walkoff win Tuesday, began Wednesday’s rally with a single. he moved to third when Mitch Moreland doubled and then scored on Jim Adduci’s pinch-hit infield single. Leonys Martin singled home Moreland to tie the score. After a walk of Donnie Murphy, Choo worked his way to the game-ending walk.
• The arms: RHP Seth Rosin had his second scoreless outing in the series and ended up with his first major league win. … Though he piled up seven strikeouts, LHP Robbie Ross threw 96 pitches in five innings, an average of 19.2 per inning. For a reliever trying to transition to the rotation, that’s simply too high. … RHP Shawn Tolleson of Allen got three ground ball outs in his 1 1/3 innings of work. … Of the 12 runs allowed by Rangers starters during the series, 10 came with two outs. … LHP Pedro Figueroa, brought on to face lefty Chase Utley, walked him on four pitches.
• The bats: `DH Mitch Moreland had extra-base hits and scored a run in each of his last two at-bats of the game. … OF Jim Adduci has hits in each of his first two pinch-hit at-bats. … OF Shin-Soo Choo, on third base in the first inning, hesitated when Adrian Beltre dribbled a ball back to the mound. When Phillies RHP Kyle Kendrick bobbled the ball, Choo started and stopped again. It led to Choo being caught in a rundown between home and third and making the second out of the inning. … 1B Prince Fielder struck out in the first inning with two men on. He is hitless in five at-bats with runners in scoring position as a Ranger. …
• The gloves: CF Leonys Martin charged a shallow single to right well in the first and forced Carlos Ruiz to stop at third, but Martin did not pick the ball up cleanly and had to turn around for it. It allowed Ruiz to score. … 1B Prince Fielder reacted quickly to stab Ryan Howard’s liner and start an inning-ending unassisted double play in the sixth. … C J.P. Arencibia did not have a great night behind the plate with a catcher’s interference call and a passed ball.

Wow. Having a sucky pitcher like Papleblow not be able to throw strikes means the batter came through? Sheesh. I know the Rangers have never won anything and choked away 2 straight World Series but this is ridiculous.
