President Barack Obama underscored his efforts to eliminate gender pay disparities in his weekly address Saturday, accusing his Republican counterparts of attempting to stymie reforms that are aimed at benefiting women.

“On issues that would benefit millions of women, Republicans in Congress have blocked progress at every turn,” Obama said.

Earlier in his address, the president contended that women are earning less than men doing the same work, calling it “wrong” and “an embarrassment” in 2014.

“You see, the average woman who works full-time in America earns less than a man – even when she’s in the same profession and has the same education,” Obama said.

Many conservatives, however, disagree with the president’s analysis. A post this month by the conservative Heritage Foundation was aimed largely at debunking Obama’s talking points.
